Cooper and Hudson

Our happy boy
Cooper has been a super happy little guy lately. He is now over his ear infection, and he seems to be over the cold he had as well. I am glad he is well since it is the week before his new brother is scheduled to arrive. I am having a huge range of emotions about this new baby ranging from complete elation to sadness and fear. I know that God will guide us and we will be just fine. Thankfully that knowledge is surpassing all my fears and I am able to enjoy the fun of having only one baby for another small while. This weekend he has started turning in circles, a dance move he learned either from the cat chasing his tail or his daddy dancing for him while he tries to eat dinner between fits of laughter. I don't know which, but either way it is so funny to watch and adorable when he tries to walk afterward and falls right down. He gets back up and spins again and again, walks and falls down. So cute!
Well, as I type I am having contractions, not enough yet to send me to the hospital, but enough to be checking the clock. I am scheduled for a c-section on Monday the 1st of December. So, please pray for me and Ben that morning as I go through the surgery and as Ben looks on and becomes a father for the second time! Also, pray for Cooper to handle the new adjustment as well as any 16 month old can.
We, will keep you all updated and have pictures of the new baby as soon as he gets here.
OH, guess what!? We finally have a name picked out, but we are not telling! It's way too close to delivery.

No More Tooths

Hey everyone. Some of you may know that I was having my wisdom teeth taken out today. Well, they were successfully extracted, you'll be happy to know. One of them was "easy" two of them were "regular" and one of them was a "difficult bony impaction." Wee-haw. I actually don't think I've ever had real surgery before. Just some stitches for a bike wreck. so today was my first IV and anesthesia. it took the surgeon 3 tries to get a good vein. I've given blood before and never had trouble, but i guess today was special.
Anyway, the narcotics seem to be working, and Stacy made me some very nice soup tonight. Thanks to David for getting up early and driving me around this morning. I was supposed to be asleep throughout the procedure, but I remember some of it. Maybe I needed a horse tranquilizer?
So speaking of Coop and teeth, he's added another one to his growing stash. No molars yet, so he's not the best chewer, but he's good at breaking up chips and tearing chunks off of things to eat. He's also walking around like a breast cancer awareness junkie (maybe we should send out some sponsorship letters?) and saying a bunch of words. I think he's entering the 'try to repeat whatever anyone says' stage. This week we've been hearing a lot of 'yellow' 'stairs' 'juice' 'stars' ' moon' 'elmo' (good grief, he's only seen elmo in the store and he's already obsessed!) ' shoes' 'night night' and 'this'
Everything is 'this'! Very cute. Anyway, i'm going to get some sleep now. I hope you are all well.

pictures galore :)
We haven't had a lot of great shots to post lately. But, I have finally had the chance to upload them and we had some great photo ops.

Those are some baby blues.

When we went to Mississippi for my friend's wedding last weekend, we stopped by the house our family built when I was in first grade. We lived here for a few years and moved on. I loved this place. It had an awesome kitchen and back yard. Seeing it reminds me of so many great times! The house was originally "country blue" a popular color in the 80's!

Our sweet friend provided a great photo set up for the boys to pose in their costumes! We had a great time on this rainy day with our new friends. Cooper loves to point at airplanes, this one gets the double point!

The boys had fun we loved "Little E's" great skunk costume!

They are too cute!

Saying "NO!" to the kitty cat.

Anybody have suggestions on how to teach him how to be gentle with the kitties? We have tried lots of things and he just doesn't get it! Even letting the kitty give him a little bite or scratch doesn't do it. And our saying "No" does nothing! He just says "no" and gets the kitty even harder.

Dancing with daddy is apparently the most amazing thing ever, he loves it. Yeah, I mean Ben :)

Pointing at the kitty.

Enjoying the pretty red maple leaves in the front yard

Loves to find the baby :)

Ben being silly.

What I should be working on right now
So I'm working frantically today to get the November New Release Guide done here at work. It's a catalog that we print every month with all of our new CD/DVD releases. We moved last week and over that weekend, and it stunk doing that, but it also means that I'm about a week and a half behind schedule for my stuff.
Anyway, that's what I should be doing. Instead I will tell you about our weekend. We went to Brandon, Mississippi (very close to Jackson) for a wedding. Stacy's best friend from before she moved to Tennessee was the bride in question. The wedding was very nice if you like weddings, and I wish Hope and her new husband lots of good times.
But I want to talk about the trip a bit. We decided to try driving down the Natchez Trace parkway because it goes from Nashville straight through Jackson on its way to Natchez, MS. The Tennessee leg of the trip was just amazing. We had beautiful weather and the trees are just starting to change colors, but still mostly green. The Trace is manicured and clean and basically the perfect road, at least the Tennessee-maintained section. Smooth, pleasant curves; wide, grassy shoulders; minimal signage; pristine pavement. It's just the best. The only issue, really, is that you can only drive about 55mph or you'll probably find a cop. It's a long drive to go at such a speed, but we gave it a try. Turns out that our van will get 26 mpg instead of the usual 19 just by going 55 and never using the brakes. I sort of knew it would be better, but I think I was surprised just how much better it was. So that's a bonus. We stopped at a couple of scenic overlooks and a couple of not-so-scenic overlooks. And a nice creek next to the bathrooms. Really.
As we left TN and moved into Alabama, Coop took the opportunity to barf up his whole lunch all over himself and his car seat. Yum yum. Of course it was our fault for giving him food that had been kept at a questionable temperature for a while...That's why a little while later, he exploded out the other end.
Rough day for Coop's gastronomy, but a nice drive, while it lasted. When it gets dark, though, the Trace is just scary. It's an unlit, winding two lane road with no real shoulders and a high likelihood of wildlife. During the day we saw some deer and a cow on the side of the road (not together). No telling what we didn't see after the sun went down. Anyway, after Tupelo, we left the trace behind, discovered a nice little deli (Sweet Peppers) and got recharged.
Our hotel in Brandon, MS was sloped to one side. Or at least our room was. if you tried to fill the room with 6 inches of water, some of the room would have 10 inches and some would have 2. The door didn't line up with the door frame because the door itself was square. For just one night, it was funny. At least it didn't fall down on us.
Saturday morning we got up and hit the Cracker Barrel and then went to the wedding. Like I said before, the wedding was nice. We also drove around a little to look at Stacy's old school/house, etc.
We decided to take the interstate on the way home just because it would be dark on the Trace most of the way if we did that, and it would take too long. It's a shorter drive in miles, and we'd get much better gas mileage, so the Trace is certainly cheaper if you have the time. We didn't, really.
So I'm driving towards the interstate and I heard a clunk sound, and I decide to check it out before getting on the main road. Found out later that the noise I heard was probably a little bolt falling off of our gimpy front bumper, but when I got out of the car at the time, I immediately heard a little hissing noise coming from the rear tire. Great. A quick look at the tire shows that the valve stem is cracking open at the base, so we used a piece of ribbon from the wedding (thanks Hope!) and tied it to the rim while we looked around for a tire place that's open on Saturday afternoon. There aren't many at all. We eventually found one and got the valve stem replaced. Back on the road at only 6 PM! Yay.
We found another Sweet Peppers Deli and decided to eat there again. It was tasty again. So by then it was 8:00 or later. The remainder of the trip was uneventful as far as I remember. I drove quite fast for the old van, and we got to Nashville before 1:30. I'm still a bit tired.
OK, back to work. You should get back to work, too.

new words

The poor quality of this picture is because I took it from the laptop. I wanted to show everyone how much Coop loves his duck. He loves it so much that he now says "duck" along with a few other words, I'll try to put together a list for you. Most of his are not really fully pronounced like an adult would say them like "Dog" sounds like "doh" and he points at Allie. The other words are similar. He is working on getting a long list, and some of them he has said once or twice, but not constantly.
1st word: Hi
2nd word: DaDa
3rd word: Ki-cat
and from there:
Dog
Duck
No No!
Nani
Papa
Mama
Ball
Nana (banana)
Wow!
Yay!
Allie
Oooh, oooh!
Nose (his latest word)
He has said these phrases too:
Hi Dada!
Where's Allie?
All done! (sounds like a-don)
No way!
He is also really getting into pointing and naming things, or having you name them. Lately he has really been pointing at these things a lot:
The 3 cats
the dog
airplanes (a favorite past-time in this beautiful weather)
birds
trees
bushes
grass
cars
balls
shoes
noses
eyes (he actually just pokes them)
A lot of his pointing is to communicate something to us that he wants or needs. I am trying to get him to say those words instead of pointing, but I think this is probably somehow necessary in his development of verbal skills. He will point to his cup, his food if he wants more, his diaper if he needs changing, his tray if he wants something on his high chair's tray, etc. I think all babies do this it's just cool when it's your own!

bye bye dots
Don't freak out. You're still at our blog. We just ditched the dots. If you don't remember that our blog had dots before, then nevermind, nothing changed, don't fret.
Anyway, I'm writing this because I haven't been doing a lot of blogging and it was suggested that I need to do that. And I do. So I am. Not a lot of substance, I know, but that's what you're going to get with me blogging. Lots of non-substance and then a big huge pile of information. I'm not sure what the information will be this time. How exciting that nobody knows yet.
Molly is sitting on Stacy right now and she's just finally given up on her "lick the hands incessantly" routine for a little while. It doesn't matter where your hands go, she wants to lick them and then rub her cheeks and head on the spot she just licked. And she's a hairy cat. And the hair comes off. If you move your hands, she follows them. Put them over your head, and she switches from hand-licking to face licking without hesitation. Then you get tiny delicate little white cat hairs in your nose and they itch like crazy. And who knows where her face has been lately. Cats are always cleaning their fur. With their mouths. They don't stop off at a water fountain every couple hours and swish, gargle, spit. So it's all in there. Yay.
In case you're wondering what the other critters are doing right now, Asher is walking around the floor looking for a good place to see everything. Basco is sitting in the light right next to a big shadow and trying to make sure he doesn't touch the shadow. Allie is staring at me wondering why the TV isn't on. I think the TV isn't on because there isn't anything on Thursday nights until next week. If you're still reading, here's a cookie *chomp* for you. You win. Be sure to leave a comment and tell me what kind of cookie you got. Good night!

consignment sales
I am quickly becoming a consignment sale junkie. With my second boy on the way and the first quickly outgrowing his 12 month clothes, I am like vulture at these sales. Ok, well, I wish I were like a vulture. Those guys get there early, leave last and get the best deals. I am more of the quiet type who wanders the isles, trying to decipher tags and predict my babies growth in the next 3-6 months. This is difficult particularly with one baby in tow and the other safely stored away for later, later like December :)
I am getting better at it. But, today although I came away with some good deals, I now have four 18 month outfits with kaki pants/corduroys. Oops, usually I take stock of what I picked up, consider what I already have and put some stuff back that I decided we don't need. Well, somehow I got distracted by a certain toy (see below), and forgot to go back through my clothing items and put some stuff back. Sorry Ben! I am sure we will use all the kaki's it's just that I went thinking we needed play clothes. I guess this boy will be playing in his kaki's. At least I won't be too concerned about stains. Not with 4 (5 counting what we had in the closet) pairs of kaki's to dirty up!
Here is a pic of the toy that distracted me, Cooper couldn't get enough of it, so I figure with another coming along, we would get good use out of a rocking zebra, don't you think?

If you are out there wondering what sale I went to, it's at the Cool Springs YMCA. I think tomorrow it's half price day, but it's over by noon - I think.

Zoo Day
We purchased a membership to the zoo earlier this year thinking that it would be a great way for us to get out of the house and walk while enjoying the "wildlife" at the same time. That was before we found out about the new baby!
Being pregnant in the heat of the summer has some great advantages (being able to wear lighter clothes, an excuse to stay inside, swimming, to name a few) but it also has this one huge disadvantage - it's miserable being hugely pregnant in the summer heat. This is the second year in a row for me, you would think I'd be a pro at this by now!
You can see it on the faces of the many women walking around the zoo, yes, it's very distinctive the way we trot behind our husbands lagging along desperately seeking that next bit of shade! I allowed the boys to go ahead of my and my hugeness several times today, as I gulped water and stayed near the shade.
This was our (mine and Cooper's) 3rd trip to the zoo this year, and the first time Ben has come along with us. That meant of course I'd have super dad to push the stroller, and it would be so much easier to take pictures of Cooper enjoying his time at the zoo. It also meant that Ben could ride the carousel with Coop and I could keep my feet firmly planted on non-rotating ground!
Enjoy the pictures!

The last few times Cooper has ridden the carousel he has "chosen" different animals, first attempt he wanted to ride a cheetah, this was one of the times I was by myself with him and as the cheetah rose up off of it's starting position, it just keep going and going, I am only 4"11 and the cheetah started rising above my head, at this time Cooper was only 7 or 8 months old. So, for sure I wanted to keep a firm grasp on him. I managed to keep my hands on him and quickly moved to something a little more solid, I think it was a seal. Anyway, the next time we tried a bunny and he was very very wiggly, so I ended up sitting with him on the bench seat, he loved that. Today he rode the stationary giraffe (probably the favorite animal of the day!) and he seemed to wonder "why is my guy just standing here. All those other guys are going up and down." I bet he would have had fun on one of the other guys, but I mentioned to Ben how wiggly he was before, so he opted for the stationary carousel animal.

Even though you can't tell this pic was taken in the Lorikeet exhibit where the birds land on you and peck you on the arm. Well, Ben chose to get pecked, and I just took shots of Coop. The birds were beautiful but so is our boy!

The elephants were basically invisible to Cooper when I took him earlier this year. He was just not looking at them at all, I would point and say "oooh Elephant" and he would just look at them like they were big rocks. Well, today was different. Today he said "OOOH" at the elephants. That's what this last image shows him saying.

We were enjoying the wrinkles on the side of this young giraffe. We just thought they looked so fluffy!
The last image of the giraffe Cooper watched as the little guy came closer and closer and said "No, no" just like he says to the dog when she takes the toy that he is putting in her mouth and the way he tells the cats "no, no" to get out of his wagon. He thinks they really listen. I bet if that giraffe could have he would have walked right up to Coop and with his long tongue he would have licked Cooper right on the face, all the while he would be laughing saying "no, no" just like he does with his doggy. Isn't that what a giraffe is anyway, a really tall doggy?

Coop loves the meercats, I think they are kind of sneaky looking little guys.

This was in the petting zoo, the reason the pics are so far away is that I was tired, I need to sit on the bench and look from far away in the shade. Daddy and Coop had fun petting a camel. Apparently Cooper really enjoyed the camel's mouth and touched his lip. I found out when he got back and we were putting Cooper back in his stroller. I was getting some wipes out to wipe his hands and as I wiped the first hand I asked Ben, did he touch any animals, at that moment his other hand was in his mouth, Ben says, yeah, he touched the camel lips. Gross.
Hope you enjoyed our day as much as we did!
